1940年代に Can’t Bust’Em が製造したワークパンツがベースのエンジニアパンツ。
当時の生地には激しい労働に耐え切れる耐久性がないため、ジーンズで言うところのリベットのような役割のために各ポケット口に補強用の当て布が付けられている設計。股上が深く、ワタリから裾まで太めのワイドシルエット。
素材は1940年代のヴィンテージスワッチを研究し、作り上げたオリジナルの撚り杢ウィップコード生地。裏面に微起毛を施した。綾目が太く畝のように盛り上がっており、その太い畝が乗馬の鞭綱（むちづな、whipcord) のようである、というところからこの名がある。
