This detailed Atlas Master Silver N Scale Alco RS3 locomotive is based on the popular road switcher used by a number of railroads. Well over 1,300 RS3 locomotives were built by Alco between 1950 and 1956. It is considered one of the most successful four-axle diesel road-switchers ever produced by Alco. Powered by an Alco 244 V-12 engine which was complimented by rugged GE electrical components. The 1,600-horsepower RS3 was truly a versatile locomotive as owners used it in every type of service from passenger and commuter runs to heavy-haul and local freight assignments. Original owners of the RS-3 tended to be in the eastern and central regions of the US (with heavier concentrations in the northeast and southeast).
This N Scale RS3 replica features a scale-speed motor with dual flywheels, low-friction mechanism, directional golden-white LED lighting, a light board that's easily changed replaced with DCC decoder when you're ready, accurate decoration and AccuMate(R) magnetic knuckle couplers. It's also sound-ready and comes equipped with a factory-installed speaker for easy sound conversion.
