DESCRIPTION:

While Nike would utilise a 2 season home shirt for Celtic between 2008-10; their training and leisure wear series for ‘The Bhoys’ only went from strength to strength and their 2009-10 range was a fine extension of the away and 3rd shirts; and this polo shirt is a testimony to that notion;; brilliantly combining white the white background and green accents that are synonymous with a single grey panel on the breast; altogether a classy and sharp piece of apparel!

THE SEASON:

The Gordon Strachan era would draw to its end following the conclusion of the 2008-09 season, and in his place stepped another former club alumnus – Tony Mowbray, with the Englishman entrusted with bringing the Scottish Premier League title back to Celtic Park in 2009-10. There would be also be a new era on-field as well as contemporary heroes – Shunsuke Nakamara, Jan Venegoor of Hesselink, Bobo Balde, Gary Caldwell and Paul Hartley moved on in the summer. The new manager would be hoping their successes would be replicated in the form of the clubs new signings, most notably: Marc-Antoine Fortuné, Danny Fox, Ki Sung-Yueng, Jos Hooiveld and Landry N'Guémo.

The Mowbray-era began with 5 wins and a draw in the Scottish Premier League to lead the way by 4 points! His first Old-Firm Derby of the season would end in defeat on 04/10/2009 and that would lead to just 2 wins in their next 6 games. When things seemed to be heading back on track with 3 wins in a row, form would nose dive significantly, and with just 7 wins in their next 15 games; Tony Mowbray would be sacked and replaced by another former player in Neil Lennon. The Northern Irishman would pick up the reins with the team 10 points behind Rangers in 1st place, and would guide the club to 8 wins from their 8  remaining games to finish 2nd place and just 6 points adrift of Rangers.

Celtic’s defence of the Scottish League Cup would end in failure as they were beaten in the quarter final by Hearts. Their pursuit of the Scottish Cup would fall short at the semi-final when they were stunned 2-0 by Ross County at Hampden Park!

In their final bid to secure a piece of silverware, Celtic would reach the Play Off for a place in the UEFA Champions Group Stage, however, they would draw Arsenal and after being beaten 5-1 over 2 Legs; they would have to settle for a place in the UEFA Europa League. With just 1 win in 6 games; Celtic would have to end the 2009-10 season trophyless; a first since the 2002-03 season.

Mid-way through the season, the club would lose the services of new signing Danny Fox, Gary Caldwell and Stephen McManus, however, their would be a trio of huge loan signings in the form of: Edson Braafheid, Diomansy Kamara and the legendary Robbie Keane who would score 16 goals in just 19 games!

The notable players that season(s) were:

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Kenny Miller, Georgios Samaras, Maciej Zurawski, Derek Riordan, Scott McDonald, Chris Killen, Massimo Donati, Barry Robson, Jiri Jarosik, Aiden McGeady, Scott Brown, Shunsuke Nakamura, Paul Hartley, Steven Pressley, Mark Wilson, Gary Caldwell, Adam Virgo, Lee Naylor, Stephen McManus, Andreas Hinkel, Dianbobo Balde, Artur Boruc
